Farmingdale Aquatics
Junior Team 2006-2007
Practice requirements for the 2006-2007 season:
Farmingdale Aquatics is a competitive swim program and as such it is important that you attend practice on a consistent basis. Attendance at practice will be used as a factor in determining meet entries. You need to arrive at the pool in a timely manner and are expected to remain at the pool to the end of practice. Always check the calendar or web sight for any changes in scheduled practice times and dates.
The Jr. Team will normally be scheduled for 6 practices a week Monday through Saturday. You will be required to attend on average 5 practices a week
Equipment:
The team suit is not to be worn at practice. This is so the team suit will last the season and not become stretched or fade out. You will therefore need a number of practice suites. You will also need a second set of goggles. This is so you can have one set for meets and one set for practice. Meet goggles need to fit tighter then the ones used for practice.
Keeping a log book which includes events and times you have done, stroke corrections that have been suggested by the coach and your practice session is the best way for you as a swimmer to be able to track yourself. It is therefore suggested that you start keeping a log of your swimming.
Practice: Once again your Team suit is not to be worn at practice. You will need several practice suits to last through the year, two pairs of goggles, a water bottle, and swim caps if necessary.
Meets: Team suit, swim cap if necessary, goggles, water bottle
General Information:
Swim Meets: You need to be at the meet at least fifteen minutes before you’re scheduled to begin warmup. This will help insure that you are checked in by the coach on deck and are ready to get into the water for your warmup session. Scratches are due into the meet director no later then a half hour before the start of the meet. Any swimmer who has not been checked in by the coach by that time will be scratched from the meet.
You are not permitted in the stands once the meet has started. We will not go searching for you. The coach needs to know where you are at all times so that as the heats and events are called you can get to the blocks in time to swim your heat. When you finish your event you are to report immediately to the Coach for feed back on your event.
Swim meets can be long and at times very boring. It is suggested that you bring something to the meet that you can use to help pass the time between events. You should also bring something healthy to snack on. Please remember when planning these items for yourself that the pool deck will be wet and that anything they bring onto the deck will get wet. Practice: You should be on deck and ready to go no later then 5 minutes before practice is ready to start with the necessary equipment.
Toilet breaks will be allowed for any swimmer that has requested to go to the toilet before the next set is announced. After a set has been announced and started toilet breaks are at the discretion of the Coach.
If you need your goggles adjusted myself or one of the other coaches will be happy to perform that task for you. Having your goggles adjusted by a coach is not a reason to stop swimming. You are to keep swimming and can pick your goggles up after they are fixed.
It is the desire and goal of the coaching staff that you will to the best of your ability improve over the course of the session and possibly be able to move up into another lane or ability group. To move up a lane or into another group the following areas will be considered;
