Farmingdale Aquatics
September 2006

            Farmingdale Aquatics is a competitive swim program and as such it is important that your child attend practice on a consistent basis. Please check with your swimmer and their Coach for the minimum requirements. They need to arrive and be ready to swim no latter then 5 minutes before the beginning of their scheduled practice and are expected to remain at the pool to the end of practice.
            It is suggested that each swimmer have a number of practice suites as the team suite is not to be used at practice. This is so the team suit will last the season and not become stretched or fade out. Practice suites can be purchased locally at either Swimmers Choice or on line at ask for or look under practice suites. Practice suites can also be purchased at swim meets.
            Hydration during practice and at swim meets is an important consideration for our swimmers. A properly hydrated athlete is able to perform at their optimum level and water is the best hydrator. Your child should carry a water bottle and have it available at all practices and swim meets.
            Your child needs to be at the meet at least Fifteen minutes prior to the scheduled beginning of warmup. This will help insure that they are checked in by the Coach on deck and are ready to get into the water for the warm-up session. Scratches are due into the meet director no later then a half hour before the scheduled start of the meet. This is generally on hour after the scheduled beginning of warm-up. Any swimmer who has not been checked in by a Coach by that time will be scratched from the meet. If you fell that you will be late you should inform the Coach on deck as soon as possible but no later then 20 minutes after the warm-up has begun. Each Coach has a cell phone. The phone number of the Coach on deck will be posted on the meet information sheet on the Team Bulletin Board.
            Swimmers will not be permitted in the stands once the meet has started. The Coaches need to know where the swimmers are at all times so that as the heats and events are called we can get the swimmer to their assigned lane in time to swim their heat. If we have to go searching for them and leave the pool area someone is going to miss their event
            Swim meets can be long and at times very boring both for the parents and swimmer. It is suggested that you have your swimmer bring something to the meet that they can use to help pass the time between their events. They will also need something healthy to snack on. Please remember when planning these items for your child that the pool deck will be wet and that anything they bring onto the deck will get wet.

            It is the desire and goal of the coaching staff that the swimmers, will to the best of their ability improve over the course of the session and be able to move up into other lanes and ability groups. To move up a lane or into another group the coaches will be considering the following;
Attendance:
            How often do they come to practice and are they prepared.
Skill:
            Do they have the physical ability to preform at the next level and will they be able to keep up with the swimmers at that level.
Performance:
            Stroke mechanics, event times, performance at meets and at practice
Desire:
            How hungry are they
